German Medieval Marriages 1543 - 1650 |
On January 17, 2001 I received a file of German marriage records from Mr. Glenn Geisheimer submitted for placement here. Upon opening that file, I discovered it wasn't just a 'file' but a database with 10,149 Bauer, Baur, etc. marriage records from Germany dating from 1651 to 1901. We are very proud to display this database, amounting to nearly 20,000 individuals.
In this particular area you will find 697 records dating 1543-1650. Those from 1651-1901 are displayed in the vital records section of the Homestead.
The index is set up alphabetically by surname. There are multiple variant spellings, however there are NO BOWER or BOWERS. Every effort was made to keep like first names together, however some names had so many that multiple files were necessary. In those cases, dates are given in the index. Because of this procedure, the files are not the same size.
An explanation of the columns is necessary here as there are no headings. You will see seven columns for each record, their definition given here:
1 - Bauer, Baur, etc. bride or groom
2 - Event (marriage in all cases)
3 - Year of marriage
4 - State
5 - District; county
6 - City, town, village
7 - Spouse
To make your selection, please click on the button in the left column.
These files are large and each one may take up to 2 minutes to open, depending on your modem. Download times will be different for each file.|
