I am trying to find out how and when the first Bower came to South Africa. What I can make out is that the Bower's are mainly in the Southern Cape (Port Elizabeth) area of South Africa. I can not find out whether the first Bower came with the 1820 British Settlers. Otherwise, execellent site!!

I am new to the Bower name. I just found out that that my father(who was adopted) was born Richard Bower. He was born in Syracuse New York on June 18, 1951. I am very interested in learning my roots. This is a very important piece of our history, and it's also going to be a long road to rinding the actual Bowers that we are most closely related. I am still trying to find out any details on Rebecca Bower. She married William Forgan in 1788 and I think she may have died in childbirth - or soon thereafter about 1798 as William re-married in 1799. I would love to hear from anyone with connections to this family
