Message:   Frederick BOWERS purchased land in what is now Lawrence County, Missouri and started a gristmill on Spring River. It was expanded

into a wool processing mill by his sons John J. S. BOWERS (1818-1879, married Angelina CRUMP,) William H. aka "Uncle Billy" (1822-1895 m1 Sarah E. MESSICK, m2 Melissa Jane DUNIVIN,) and George F. BOWERS (1827-1909, m. Frances E. ELMORE.) The mill and the houses

belonging to the brothers were burned before 31 May 1865 (Circuit

Court Docket B, 13th Circuit District, pages 712-713) when the

brothers sued those taking part in the burning (including two inlaws.)

The information I was given has Frederick's birth date as 30 April 1730 in Amsterdam, Holland. He died on 28 December in Bowers Mill, Lawrence County, Missouri and was buried there, but the cemetery no longer exists. He married Mary Sharp, daughter of

John SHARP and Elizabeth DENNY on 6 October 1817 in Pickaway County, Ohio. All 6 children were born in Ohio (the three boys cited above and daughters Elizabeth Caroline, Evelyn, and Margaret.) I would love to correspond with others researching this family's heritage. It seems to be a rich and varied history if Lawrence County court dockets are correct. My grandmother was one of William H's daughters from his second marriage (Melissa raised 7 step children and had 5 of her own.)
