From Bowers family Bible: John Joseph Bowers (b. 1828) married Christiana Billmeyer on 18 Dec 1851. Children: Charles Wesley, b. 18 Nov 1852 in MI; John Calvin, b. 4 Aug 1854 in MI; George Edward, b. 1 Oct. 1856 in MI; Joseph Henry, b. 15 Feb 1859 in IA; Cyrus Arden, b. 18 Dec 1861 in IA; Fred Arthur, b. 14 Aug. 1858 in IA; Ina May, b. 21 July 1870 in IA; Gertrude, b. 16 Nov 1878 in IA.
I believe another son, Edward, was stillborn. In the Bowers plot in Osage City Cemetery, Osage, IA: Gertie (baby) buried 24 Apr 1879, John Calvin buried 18 Mar 1879, and Edward (stillborn) 30 Dec 1881. I do not know causes of death for Gertie or John Calvin. The Bowers family moved to Fargo ND @1882. They are listed in the 1885 Dakota Territory Census. Most of the sons were carpenters/contractors. Fred Arthur was Chief of Police in Fargo according to the 1900 Fed. Census.
