My ancestors can be trace back to about 1820 in Germany to Nicholas Bauer who married a woman named Rosena. They had two sons, Nicholas and George. George married Eva, and moved to America in about 1852. They had Charles in America, and brought their parents and brother Nicholas over too. George worked for the city trolley cars in New York City and changed the spelling of his last name to Bower. The rest of the family left it Bauer. George and Eva's son, Charles, married Rosa Beebe in Nebraska and they had a son Paul, who is my father. The Nicholas Bauer family moved to Boston, and was lost track of.

I looked at the site and noticed that the name BOWERS seems to be traced back to the british isles but I know my family originally came from germany with the name BAUER. I realize that our name was americanized during immigration. I just want to know if, when, and how the name spread from the british iles. And if there are any other people with the name who can trace there ancestry back to germany as well.
