Message:   JOHN BOWER, b. 1799 in PA, d. 1875 in IA. A carpenter by trade, he married MARY ANN ???, b. 1805 in PA. Children, all born in Montour County, PA: Samuel (b. 1827); Cyrus (b. 1830); John (b. 1831); Mary (b. 1832-34); Margaret Malinda (b. 1836); Daniel (b. 1838); William (b. 1840); Sarah (b. 1842); George (b. 1844); and Lydia (b. 1847).

MARY ANN BOWER died in 1850-51. JOHN BOWER and his sons and all but one of his daughters left PA in 1851, stopping for at least two years in St. Joseph, MI, before going on to Iowa. It appears several of the Bowers children/grandchildren married BILLMEYERS, also of Montour/Columbia County, so there may be a link between the two families. I have been told that the first BILLMEYER emigrated in 1831. On the same ship were several BEYERs.

Can anyone help me to find information on the parentage/origin of JOHN BOWER or his wife, MARY ANN??? Is BOWER an anglicized version of BEYER? Thanks so much.
