Arms of Bauer

Of

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

I am told this particular set of Bauer arms hangs on a wall in Schloss Neuschwanstein on the Austrian border. Neuschwanstein was one of King Ludwig's three castles, and is the one Walt Disney used to picture at the beginning of the Disney TV show. He also used Neuschwanstein as the pattern for his Fantasyland Castle at Disneyland. A local Houston woman (her maiden name was Bauer) from Germany who married a U.S. soldier in the 50's advised me that this was her family coat of arms, and similar to the one in the castle. She confirmed to me that her family had anciently been Jewish, and forced into conversion by the German Lutheran Church.

The reference for these arms comes from Riestrap's Armory (French):

Bauer - Frankfort am Main. De sinople au vol d'azur; au chef du meme, ch. de trois etoiles d'or.

Vol means: "a pair of wings, joined. Sinople (vert on English Arms) means green. Azur means blue. Or means gold. The complete blazon would translate thusly:

Bauer - from Frankfort am Main. On green, a pair of wings joined, blue; on blue chief (top portion of shield) three stars, gold.

Livery colors: gold, blue and green.

Mrs. Jenny Bauer Harris, (202 Sawdust Road, Suite 109, The Woodlands 77380) who emigrated from Germany in 1961, states that this is also her family coat of arms. She states the more ancient form of the arms (1400's) included a complete double headed eagle (adler), and that the "blue" was actually a turquoise or sky blue.

I have been working for some time to prove this set of arms belongs in my direct line. Please contact me if you are able to provide concrete proof. It would be truly neat to be able to put all this story together!
