[1272] Philip settled well up the Roseway River. His grandson Manus M, Bower later lived on the charming site of the original home at the head of the lake which bears his name. Some of his sons settled around him and at one time there were five families living on the hill. (Auntie Marg's notes).

Co Mar recs.
BD listed as "Apr" in 1900 Census.
McDonald Co land records Jan 15, 1889 show 40 acres deeded to Dave from his
father and another 40 acre parcel tranferred from brother Samuel.
Dave is listed as heir of brother M.L. Bowers in several McDonald Co probate
entries, one is Book G p65.
Middle name "McKinley" from granddaughter, Christine Camfield.
David Bowers
Dave Bowers was a prominent farmer in McDonald County during his life.
His wife, "Mag", was the sister of Blake Bowers' wife, Learh. Both were
daughters of Paul M. Barringer, also a prominent area family. Because of
their large families, sizable farming operations, and involvement in the
area, today Dave and Blake are by far the most well known of the seven
Bowers brothers. Bowers Corner is primarily a legacy of these two.
David and Mag were parents of a son and four daughters, all of whom made
positive contributions in McDonald and Newton Counties during their lives.
Their farm was about 1/2 mile south of Bowers Corner, on the west side.
During the early years of the 20th century their farming operation was
like most in the area. It would have been very diversified, providing
for most of their needs. Hogs and chickens provided basic staples,
supplemented by plentiful wildlife of the area. Salt, sugar, and flour
(unless they had wheat for grinding) were traded for at nearby villages,
such as Bethpage or Stella.
David never owned an automobile, although by the time of his death in 1928
they were common on the dirt roads of the area. Aunt "Mag" lived another
20 years after Dave's death. Many of the family still remember her very
well for the hospitality she offered at the old "homeplace" during those
years.
Dave and Mag are buried together at Union Cemetary, just a short distance
from where they spent their life together.
